The Gig of Being Human is Hard.

I've come to believe that people make far more sense than they realize.

Many people come to therapy convinced they're broken. Let's reverse-engineer this. More often, they're struggling with old wounds and unmet needs that trace back to a time when they were younger, smaller, and less-resourced—when their survival depended on how reliably their emotional and physical needs were met. There can be any number of reasons, often harmless, sometimes not, why that reliability may have been…well…unreliable.

Along the way, we learned what we needed to do—and who we needed to be—to find safety, connection and belonging. Those solutions often made perfect sense at the time. The problem is that some of them may now be getting in the way of the very things we long for: safe communication, meaningful connection, security, self-esteem, and belief in what's possible.

I've found that when we begin to lay out the map and unfurl the blueprint—understanding these patterns from a place of curiosity and compassion instead of judgment—something shifts. We stop seeing ourselves as broken and begin seeing ourselves as human.

That's where healing begins.
